Workshops

Broadway Workshop offers special one and two day Masterclasses with Broadway Stars and Industry Professionals for young actors of ALL skill levels. Our Workshops allow students to learn from the best teachers in the business and build on the skills they have in a positive, supportive setting.

Workshops take place in NYC at Ripley-Grier Studios (520 8th Avenue, between 36th & 37th St.) and on tour in conjunction with theatre companies and other acting programs. E-mail us to host a workshop in your town.

Musical Theatre Day
with Broadway Star Laura Osnes

Two time TONY nominee - Laura Osnes has been part of our summer camps for the past 3 years and we are thrilled to finally have her teach a workshop with us!

Laura shot to Broadway stardom playing Sandy in Grease and has gone on to star in the Broadway productions of Cinderella, Anything Goes, Bonnie & Clyde and South Pacific.

This workshop will focus on giving young actors the tools necessary to help them stand out from the crowd and take their audition and performance skills to the next level. Laura, and Broadway Workshop director - Marc Tumminelli will help students find a stronger focus to their musical pieces, have more fun when performing and a discover a better way to connect to their songs. Students will also take part in a Broadway dance master class taught by a Broadway guest.

Each student should prepare one musical theatre song of their choice for this workshop. Topics covered are:

Seth Rudetsky
Song Master Class

After his SOLD OUT workshop last month Seth is back! Students will work with FAMED BROADWAY COACH AND SIRIUS XM RADIO STAR SETH RUDETSKY on 1-2 songs of their choice in this one day intensive. Seth is currently starring off-Broadway in Disaster The Musical as well as musical directing for Sutton Foster and Patti LuPone on tour. Seth will also look through each student’s “audition book” and help them make good choices on what works and what might not be showing them off in the best light.

Seth will help students find strong acting focuses for their audition pieces and help find new ways to perform them. This is an amazing workshop for students who are auditioning professionally or need help preparing for upcoming auditions. Seth is one of the most amazing teachers we have ever worked with and we are so lucky to have back at Broadway Workshop!

Sierra Boggess Master Class

SIERRA BOGGESS IS BACK! This class will be spent on exercises that will allow students to learn how to deal with anxiety, fears, doubt, worry and not feeling like they are “enough” when performing as well as musical theatre song interoperation.

Sierra’s numerous past workshops have left students and parents raving. We were so inspired by Sierra’s passion, excitement and true gift of working with actors we could not wait to have her back to teach another master class for our students.

This special master class will focus on dealing with fears when auditioning and performing. Sierra will work with each student on what makes them unique and help them bring that out. Students will also have the opportunity to sing one song selection for Sierra. She will help students find a stronger focus to their musical pieces and a better way to connect to the material using the exercises taught in this class.

Each student should prepare one or two musical theatre songs of their choice of this workshop. However we will only focus on one song in this class.

Sierra Boggess made her Broadway debut in The Little Mermaid, then returned to Broadway in Master Class. She has played Andrew Lloyd Webber’s heroine Christine Daae in the Las Vegas and Broadway productions of The Phantom of the Opera as well as playing Christine in the 25th Anniversary DVD of The Phantom of the Opera. Sierra starred in the West End premiere of the Phantom sequel, Love Never Dies and as Fantine in Les Misérables. Sierra is set to return to Broadway in Phantom... opposite Norm Lewis and is currently in rehearsals for Guys and Dolls in Concert with Nathan Lane.

  • We are so excited to offer for the very first time - The ULTIMATE Dance Experience. Broadway Workshop has been presenting Rachelle Rak's signature SAS for years and now we are taking that class to a totally new level in this one day experience. Rachelle has assembled some of the most incredible dance teachers working today.

    Each student will have the amazing opportunity to work with Broadway Legend and Abby Lee's Ultimate Dance Competition Judge - Rachelle Rak. Rachelle will give feedback to each student on their abilities and help them reach the next level of dance performance.

    Students will also get to take special master classes taught by Mark Myars (Wicked Dance Supervisor, Broadway's 9 to 5, West Side Story, Footloose and the associate chreographer of IF/THEN starring Idina Menzel) and Charlie Sutton (Broadway's Kinky Boots, Wicked, How to Succeed, Catch Me If You Can, Addams Family, Cry-Baby).

    Each student in this program must have at least 3 years of dance training to participate in this event.

    Musical Theatre Master Class

    Broadway Workshop is thrilled to welcome for the first time, Broadway, TV and Film Star Jonathan Groff for this special one day Workshop. Mr. Groff earned a Tony® Nomination for the role of Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening on Broadway and plays Jesse St. James on the hit FOX series Glee, he is the voice of Kristoff in Disney’s animated feature film FROZEN and is the star of HBO's Looking.

    Mr. Groff will personally work with each student on audition technique and song interpretation. This master class will focus on giving actors the opportunity to bring their audition and performance skills to the next level.

    This is an ADVANCED LEVEL WORKSHOP. Students should have extensive experience on stage, in class and be actively pursuing a career in musical theatre. Students should be ready for honest feedback and to be open to exploring new ways to work on their meterial. Each student should have 2 musical theatre vocal selections in the correct key for this class.

    Jen Rudin Casting Workshop

    We are so thrilled to welcome back Jen Rudin for this special workshop. Jen Rudin is an award-winning New York based Casting Director, audition coach and author of the newly released book Confessions of a Casting Director. She owns and operates Jen Rudin Casting which casts for film, television, animation and theater. Jen's projects include casting for DISNEY, FOX, ABC, DREAMWORKS, HBO and NICK Jr.

    Jen will be working with students on how to act and audition for film and television as well as theatre. This very special workshop gives students the opportunity to get feedback and coaching from a major casting director whose past projects include; Walt Disney Pictures - Princess and the Frog and Frankenweenie. Students will not only get to work on scenes from her projects but they will also get to sing a song of their choice for Jen.

    Each student will receive an autographed copy of Jen's most recent book Confessions of a Casting Director. Parents along with students will be invited into the class for special Q&A that will conclude this workshop.

    Students should prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre or pop song — with sheet music in the appropriate key — and have one photo/resume (snapshots are fine) for this class.

    Rachelle has been offering her SAS class at Broadway Workshop for the last 3 years, leaving parents and student raving.

Marcia is a leading independent casting director who works with every major TV network and Film studio.     Broadway Workshop is thrilled to welcome Tony® Award Winner LAURA BENANTI, for this special one day Workshop. Ms. Benanti is currently in rehearsals for the upcoming live NBC movie The Sound of Music. She won a Tony® Award for her performance as Louise in Gypsy opposite Patti LuPone. Other Broadway credits include: Woman on the Verge...,Nine, Into The Woods, In The Next Room, Swing, The Wedding Singer, The Sound of Music and on TV in Go On, The Playboy Club, The Big C and Law and Order.

    During the last 6 years, Broadway Workshop has helped high school seniors get into major musical theatre and acting programs. In our one-day COLLEGE PREP WORKSHOP students will have the opportunity to work on their college audition material (songs and monologues) with our amazing line-up of coaches. Broadway Workshop students are currently attending a wide range of schools including; Boston Conservatory, Carnegie Mellon, Cincinnati Conservatory, Marymount Manhattan College, University of Michigan, NYU, Pace University and Syracuse University.

    Broadway Workshop coaches DAVID AYERS (Broadway's Wicked, Mamma Mia, Fiddler), JOY SUPRANO (The Julliard School, HBO's How to Make It in America) and Broadway Workshop’s MARC TUMMINELLI will work with students on songs and monologues in small groups. We will focus on making sure your audition material is ready for your upcoming auditions as well as giving you honest feedback on the work that should be done to bring those pieces to the next level or offering alternate songs and monologues that might work for each student.

    Then students and parents will be invited to a Q&A session with AMY ROGERS (Director of the BFA Musical Theatre program at PACE). We will cover the audition and admission process, common audition mistakes, material selection and more.

    Wicked Workshop
    with Wicked Stars Donna Vivino and Tiffany Haas

    Donna Vivino as Elphaba and Tiffany Haas as Glinda
    in the Broadway company of Wicked.

    Students will work with current Wicked stars, DONNA VIVINO and TIFFANY HAAS. Both Ms. Vivino and Ms. Haas have played their roles on Broadway and in the National Tour of Wicked.

    As with all Broadway Workshop one day musical theatre classes, the Wicked Workshop will focus on all areas of performing! Donna and Tiffany will work with students to help their musical performances soar to the next level, Students will so get to work on scenes from Wicked and learn choreography from the show. Finally students will be treated to a special in studio performance from our guests!

Mr. Jordan most recently wrapped production of the film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years.     SIERRA BOGGESS IS BACK! Most of this class will be spent on exercises that will allow students to learn how to deal with anxiety, fears, doubt, worry and not feeling like they are “enough” when performing.

    Sierra’s numerous past workshops have left students and parents raving. We were so inspired by Sierra’s passion, excitement and true gift of working with actors we could not wait to have her back to teach another master class for our students.

    This special master class will focus on dealing with fears when auditioning and performing. Sierra will work with each student on what makes them unique and help them bring that out.

    Students will also have the opportunity to sing one song selection for Sierra. She will help students find a stronger focus to their musical pieces and a better way to connect to the material using the exercises taught in this class.

    This is an amazing opportunity for students who are about to start the college audition process. Each student should prepare one or two musical theatre songs of their choice of this workshop. However we will only focus on one song in this class.

    Sierra Boggess made her Broadway debut in The Little Mermaid, then returned to Broadway in Master Class. She has played Andrew Lloyd Webber’s heroine Christine Daae in the Las Vegas and Broadway productions of The Phantom of the Opera as well as playing Christine in the 25th Anniversary DVD of Phantom of the Opera. Sierra starred in the West End premiere of the Phantom sequel, Love Never Dies and as Fantine in Les Misérables.

Over the past 5 years we have worked one-on-one with high school seniors to help prepare them for college musical theatre and acting program auditions and now we are taking that training to the next level with this full day workshop.     Join is for our Second Voiceover Workshop with voice over teacher ANDY ROTH, who has worked as a voice over agent as well as producing voice over sessions for major casting directors and commercial talent agencies. Each student will have the opportunity to work on basic voice over commercial technique and various approaches to reading commercial voice over copy. Mr. Roth will focus on how to best approach voice acting auditions and the techniques that will help young actors stand out from the crowd.     Students will take part in a full day of musical and theatrical workshops at TELSEY + COMPANY CASTING (New York's top casting office.     Sierra Boggess made her Broadway debut in the title role of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Boggess returned to Broadway as an opera student in Master Class and snagged the leading role in Rebecca coming to Broadway in 2012.     Join us for our first ever Voice Over Workshop with voice over teacher Andy Roth, who has worked as a voice over agent as well as producing voice over sessions for major casting directors and commercial talent agencies. Each student will have the opportunity to work on Basic voice over commercial technique and various approaches to reading commercial voice over copy. Mr. Roth will focus on how to best approach voice acting auditions and the techniques that will help young actors stand out from the crowd. Finally each student will have one on one time recording a 1-track voice over demo in the Hyperbolic recording studio. Your best take will be sent to as a MP3 following the class!

    All students will be part of the class and instruction section of workshop (10 a.m. - 12 p.m.) and will be scheduled for a private voice over recording session (12 p.m. – 2 p.m.). Students will be released according to their recording slot.

    Andy Roth - For over fifteen years Andy Roth has run voice over casting sessions for some of the biggest casting directors and commercial talent agencies in the business. His unique approach to voice over training has given hundreds of artists the ability to quickly and easily assess any copy in any situation. Andy’s alumni boast some of the biggest names in the voice over industry as well as some of the most recognizable names in television and film. Andy began his career in the early 90s in the voice over department of the Cunningham Escott Dipene Talent Agency (now CESD). His expertise is in not only in the artistic end of the voice over world, but the technical and production side as well. Mr. Roth has been employed by such prestigious acting schools as New York University and Rutgers University.

Diana made her Broadway debut in Hairspray as Penny Pingleton. Following Hairspary, Diana performed the lead in the 2006 national tour of Brooklyn: The Musical.     LONNY PRICE - Most recent Broadway- Tony Nominated 110 in the Shade starring Audra McDonald. Lonny directed and co-authored the Ed Kleban musical A Class Act on Broadway (five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical) and in Los Angeles and Tokyo. He won an Emmy for his film of Sweeney Todd with Patti LuPone (broadcast on PBS), directed the original cast reunion performances of Falsettos that inaugurated Playwrights Horizons’ new complex on Theatre Row and staged the Broadway musical Urban Cowboy. Previously on Broadway, he directed Joan Rivers in her Tony-nominated turn as Lenny Bruce’s mother in Sally Marr...and her escorts (co-authored with Ms. Rivers and Erin Sanders). Off-Broadway, he supervised the Manhattan Theatre Club’s remounting of Athol Fugard’s Valley Song and directed Jules Feiffer’s Grown Ups, Jeff Baron’s Visiting Mr. Green (starring Eli Wallach) and revivals of The Rothschilds and Juno. He has worked with Patti LuPone on a series of staged concert versions of musicals including Pal Joey (Encores!, with Peter Gallagher), Annie Get Your Gun (Lincoln Center with Mr. Gallagher), Sweeney Todd (Lincoln Center with George Hearn and the N.Y. Philharmonic) and A Little Night Music (the Ravinia Festival with Mr. Hearn and Zoe Caldwell) and GYPSY (the Ravinia Festival with Patti LuPone). Lonny served as staff director of ABC’s One Life to Live (Emmy nomination). Some of her favorite roles include: Tessie in the Broadway Production of Annie, Princess Zora in the film Frog Prince, April Coregory in the world premier Irish play That Was Then, Molly in the regional production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Chava in the National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof, Bet in the Papermill production of Oliver and more recently Annette in the 1st National Tour of Saturday Night Fever. Aileen graduated with honors from Drew University and is currently a drama professor at Monmouth University.
