Sandy Rustin is an actress and award-winning playwright recently named to the Broadway Women’s Fund’s inaugural “50 Women to Watch” list. Sandy’s adaptation of the cult-hit film, CLUE (Araca GroupWorklight Productions, and Lively McCabe Entertainment) directed by Casey Hushion, broke all box office records during its regional premiere at Cleveland Playhouse in January 2020. Clue is slated for a 2021 National Tour and is available for licensing via Broadway Licensing.

Sandy is currently writing two original musicals, utilizing classic Disney songs from the Disney canon, for Disney Theatrical’s KIDS and JUNIOR divisions. Initial productions are expected in early 2021 and an adaptation of MGM’s film, MYSTIC PIZZA, for the stage. Produced by Lively McCabe Entertainment, this new musical is expected to hit a stage near you in early 2021. Sandy recently created and wrote the book & lyrics for Mattel’s American Girl Live; a musical that toured 47 cities in the U.S. in 2019 and is slated for a second season in 2020. Last spring, Sandy and collaborator, Sarah Saltzberg, gave a “thorough feminist scouring” (NY Times) to Rogers & Hart’s I Married an Angel, which they adapted for NYC’s City Center’s Encores! directed by Joshua Bergesse. This season, Sandy is working on a commission as part of Florida Studio Theatre’s The Suffragist Project. Her sketch comedy musical, Rated P … For Parenthood, (“Wistfully Funny!” – The NY Times) opened Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre, was optioned for TV development with ABC Studios, and is newly available for licensing through Broadway Licensing. Sandy’s play, STRUCK (“A Charming Comedy!” – The NY Times) enjoyed two recent, critically acclaimed productions at NJ REP and Theatre Raleigh. Her play, HOUSTON, is the recipient of the New American Musical Award and Sandy’s comedy, ELIJAH, was recently presented as part of Midtown Direct Rep’s “Theatre in the Parlor” Reading Series. Sandy created, developed, wrote and starred in her own show for Nickelodeon (Nick Mom) called Overbooked. And her comedy webseries, It’s Complicated, was acquired by Stage17.TV  Sandy has two screenplays and three television pilots in development.

Sandy is the voice director of the YA Panoply Podcast, Jessica Majors from the Peabody Award Winning Gen-Z Team and is currently writing a new kids’ scripted podcast for Gen-Z called, The Suffragist’s Sash. She is also the co-director/producer of the annual North Jersey Listen to Your Mother Show.

As an actress, Sandy guest starred on Comedy Central’s, Inside Amy Schumer and regularly appears at New York’s The Upright Citizen’s Brigade in “Gravid Water” (named “Best Improv Show” by Time Out NY). She has worked with Loopers Unlimited for over 15 years as a voiceover actress, appearing in hundreds of TV shows and Films.
